Discord Adventuring Parties (Sixth Edition Beta)
With the sixth edition reaching beta, we’re doing some adventuring parties in the Discord server!
There are two motives:
- It is a chance for me to get feedback on the beta, as it currently stands. The feedback from the mini-course we did four years ago was indispensible to me, and this “adventure” thing is the same thing with a different name.
- It allows readers who may have gotten stuck or who could use some extra structure to work with a group on a three-week schedule to get through the next part of the book. (That’s not meant to be abstract. The book has five parts, and each of the groups will focus on getting through one of the parts.)
It works like this:
- On Discord, you’ll be able to join a group/adventuring party associated with one of the five parts of the book. (You can change your mind, but you can only pick one at a time.)
- Starting this weekend (the 17th or 18th, depending on details yet to be decided), we’ll have a kickoff, and the adventure will run for three weeks after that.
- Your chosen group will have a schedule of chapters to get through each week, and everybody in your group will be (roughly) on the same schedule as you.
- You’ll be able to chat and share your progress with the rest of the people in your group.
- Each week, there will be a live Q&A with me for 30 minutes, so you can get your questions answered and I can see how things are going. I’ll record these and post them somewhere so that people who miss it can still watch it afterward.
- In a few weeks, you’ll be done with the next part in the book!
It is possible we’ll repeat this more than once, depending on popularity and if there’s time to do it again before the release.
This is (primarily) for people going through the sixth edition beta (see the previous post), but, as I’ve said before, you can get a free upgrade to the sixth edition if you purchased the fifth edition. (You can wait until it is fully baked, or you can get it in beta now, too.)
